機動新世紀ガンダム X -
Mobile New Century After War Gundam X
Episode 1 "Is the moon
appearing?"
"月は出ているか?"
The first episode starts with an
explanation of the previous war among the
humans that live on Earth and the humans
that inhabit the space colonies. The
outcome of the war is a stalemate. As a
last ditch effort, all of the colonies in
space are dropped on the planet and kills
over ten billion people. The anime takes
place fifteen years after this
catastrophic event occurred. |
I am
basing this review on the fan sub version
of Gundam X by Faceless Minions.
Although the translation is top notch,
there are some errors to be found.
Sometimes, the subtitles would appear in
the wrong time. If you can understand the
Japanese language, you'll know what I
mean. There are also some grammar and
subtitle errors to be found as well. This
can be seen in some parts of the
narration when it says "vulture
means vulture." I'm assuming that
the narrator is translating the word
"vulture" to the Japanese
language. This is like saying
"vulture means hagetaka."
If you think that the chracter designs
look similar to Gundam Wing, you
are correct. Shukou Murase who also did
the same character designs for Gundam
Wing did the character designs for Gundam
X. A quick look at the cast will
please fans. Strangely, some of the
characters look a like younger version of
someone from Gundam Wing when
viewed from a certain angle. Also, the GX
looks rather similar to Zero One
and the Wing Zero. This
shouldn't pose a problem to fans since
both are very, very different in
features.
The music, although not quite as good as Gundam
Wing (in my opinion), correctly sets
the mood for the scene. When Garoad
sneaks in the ship Frieden, the music
foreshadows the upcoming scene in which
Garoad encounters a woman wearing a
towel; wearing ONLY a towel. Hee hee hee.
The intro song "Dreams" which
was sung by ROmatic Mode
explains the main theme of the anime.
Click here to see the lyrics which was
Romanized and translated by Fanboy.
This is the first Gundam series that made
me laugh the most. Unlike Gundam Wing,
which is more of a soap opera/drama, this
anime falls under the category of comedy.
Garoad has a funny personality that will
bring laughs to fans. You really need to
see this anime if you want to know what I
mean.
Unfortunately, this anime is currently
out of the interest of Bandai. Perhaps
they want to translate the Gundam series
in the order they were released. I am ok
with this, but I think it would be a
(very?) long wait for those who don't
speak Japanese or have access to a
translated version of the series.
Remember, good things come to those who
wait. For those who want my opinion on
which series is better (Gundam W
or X), I'll have to see all 39 episodes
of GX first. But of course, I can't
compare a drama to a comedy!

Rating
A
Gundam series that should have been
released here. First episode is a
