The first day I got this, I
was very hooked. This takes on the same
concept as other Lode Runner games. Here
is a little summary of my experience so
far with the game:
Lode Runner 3D involves the Mad Monks
which were made slaves by their emperor.
They hijacked ships at 6 different
planets and stole gold. Your job is to
get the gold, kill the emperor, and
return to earth.
Believe it or not, this is what reminds
me of Sierra's release of Lode Runner:
The Legend Returns. The first Lode Runner
used snakes instead of monks. In the
versions with monks, though, you have
quite a few challenges to overcome. If
you trap the monks and kill them, they
will regenerate where they spawned. After
you get all the gold, you must hurry back
to portals awaiting your arrival.
These monks hate you very much. In fact,
the ones in LR:TLR were cannibalistic and
would eat you! These monks just want to
drag you off to their emperor. However,
in all the monk versions of the Lode
Runner games, you can kill them in at
least two ways: Trap them in regenerating
turf and wait for them to be buried, or
blow their heads off with bombs.
The monks aren't the only things you
gotta worry about; Natural obstacles are
almost half the ordeal! You can blast
into turf to make holes to descend
through. However, be warned, if your
judgment is flawed, you can end up
trapping yourself easily in 2 or more
levels of turf. If you are trapped, you
cannot climb out, meaning that when the
turf regenerates, your history. It's very
easy to get killed if you don't have a
clue what you are doing or aren't fast
enough. Remember that you can only blast
turf to your bottom right or bottom left.
However, the game is challenging because
of this. You also find gold buried in
these holes, so plan carefully if you see
it! In this particular version of the
game, you get bombs. You can get killed
if you are 1 tile within the bomb's
radius, but otherwise, you have nothing
to worry about. Bombs respawn if they get
spent, meaning you can use bombs
unlimited times if you are willing to go
back for them. Some traps take advantage
of this fact. They will set off perpetual
explosion traps until you grab the
not-detonated bombs 1 by 1. This is a
great challenge in the game, as well.
There are other obstacles in the game,
but those are the most significant. They
are very reasonable obstacles, and if you
are good, you'll be able to clear the
first few levels without a problem.
This game has a sense of challenge to it.
It's intended for people who like
puzzles, and can solve them quick. If you
don't like puzzles, I don't recommend
this game; it'll piss you off in that
case. But if you are ready for some
challenge, then this game is on my top
ten list. The rules are simple, and they
are easy to understand. They are combined
to make complex puzzles eventually, and
your fast mind and wit can let you solve
the 100 puzzles, not to mention 25 bonus
levels.

Rating
Pros-
Very challenging puzzles, and a good
sequel to the other Lode Runner games.
Cons- Camera can be a bit picky, but not
so much to affect gameplay much.
Combination of Nostalgia and 3D-Rendering
with simple rules that everyone can
understand.
