Pokémon fever has
come over many people young and old. The
idea of capturing cute little creatures
with the power to defeat each other seems
to capture our souls like metal velcro,
and never lets go.
However, as many people have come to
realize, the Pokémon fad is starting to
die down. Pokémon Gold/Silver is
Nintendo's last chance to bring it back
up to speed, and it almost does the job,
but not quite.
Pokémon Gold/Silver plays just like the
original, but with many added features.
For starters, experience gainning is far
easier this time around. Getting your
Pokémon to Level 20, 30, even 50, is
nowhere near as hard as before. The
graphics are much better too, even if
you're only playing on an old
4-greyshades Game Boy or Game Boy Pocket.
There are several tiny things about the
game though that may discourage people at
first. For starters, many of the Pokémon
from the original Blue/Red games just
aren't there, so they have to be traded
from the previous games. This can be
troublesome if you only have one Game
Boy. Also, the fun filled mystery gift
option is only compatible with the Game
Boy Color, so people using older Game Boy
systems wont get to play with any special
items. The time system which keeps track
of the time of day and the day of the
week is a fun feature, but for people who
are stretched for time each day, playing
the game this way can be tough and
there's no way to turn this option off.
Last but not least is the storyline, or
lack thereof. This time around, you have
a lot more freedom on where to go and
what to do, unfortunately, this makes the
game harder when you have to get
somewhere specific and suddenly your only
path is blocked off because you need an
item two towns back.
If you have tons of time on your hands at
any time of the day, Pokémon Gold/Silver
is a great buy, especially for new
Pokémon fans. Just be prepared to be
annoyed by all the little details that
seemed too good to be true.
UPDATE
There will soon be a Crystal version.
Hopefully, this will get rid of some of
the problems found in the Gold/Silver
versions. This is what happened when the
Yellow version came out. Many monsters in
Blue/Red that were hard to capture were a
LOT easier to capture in Yellow. The
Crystal version will come out next year.

Rating
It's
good, but not perfect. Some of its new
features may be a problem for some people
such as the timer feature. Many monsters
from the previous game did not make it to
the final version.
