The Typing of the Dead is a typing tutor
for the Dreamcast. Don't be thinking
"Mavis Beacon" when I say
"typing tutor", cuz this game
is everything BUT Mavis Beacon. Instead
of your average office venue, you walk
around various places straight out of
Resident Evil. When a zombie appears, a
sign appears in front of him as well. As
you type the letters on the zombie's
sign, you are continually
"shooting" the zombie. When you
finish typing, the zombie is dead. There
is acutally a lot of depth in this game.
On to the scoring sections!
Gameplay/originality: 8/10
This is a typing tutor at it's finest.
The only problem I have with gameplay is
that the game is just too darn short.
However, there are plenty of things to
unlock (such as Start Game With 2
Molotovs and Free Play Mode) and various
missions are scattered about the levels.
Beat the missions and you've earned
yourself a special powerup that you can
use with the F1-F4 keys. It's kinda hard
to explain here, but you'll see for
yourself when you buy it.
Sound: 5/10
The game has plenty of loud gunshots,
groaning zombies, and other things to go
around, but the voice acting is
absolutely atrocious. The characters are
incapable of showing emotion when they
talk. (Example: "WHAT?!?"
becomes "What.") Aside from the
voices (that make males sound like
females when they are struck by a
zombie), the sound is somewhat good.
Graphics: 7/10
The graphics are pretty good here. REALLY
fast framerate, high polygon count, and
lots of zombies on screen at the same
time. However the textures aren't
filtered (they pixelate when the camera
is close enough to them, which is quite
often) and the blood effects are just a
little strange. Aside from that, nice
graphics.
Overall: 8/10

Rating
A
good game. If you don't know how to type,
there is a decent tutorial as to how you
do so. There are lots of things to
unlock, various tests of skill, and
multiplayer. (NOTE: I was unable to get
my keyboards to work in Port B of my
Dreamcast...everything else works just
fine.) Anybody willing to look for a good
typing tutor that doesnt get old and
repetitive after 5 minutes has gotten
thier wish with this! Try it out, you
won't be disappointed!
